The J.A.P. Club

Posted 24th January 2007, late morning

The J.A.P. Club is the latest initiative of the Jewish Discovery Center, www.JDiscovery.com, in Mason. After its successful pilot program in 2006, the center for the entire Jewish community in the Northern corridor is launching the new club for “tween” girls in the Jewish community, ages 9-13, for 2007. J.A.P., Jewish Arts & Programming, will give girls the chance to be part of the ‘most happening’ club around.

With this year’s theme being “Traveling the Globe,” club members will visit many global tourist attractions. Without even stepping foot out of town, participants will experience the warmth of the African sun, the serene Hawaiian beaches, the delicious aroma of Italian foods, the icy cold winds of Alaska, the hustle and bustle of the Holy Land and lots more, while collecting souvenirs for their travel scrapbook along the way.

“I had so much fun last year and I can’t wait to be a J.A.P member again, and to see what’s in store,” said Shelby Hardin of Mason Jr. High, former J.A.P member.

The J.A.P. Club promises energizing and stimulating activities for every style and personality, offering something for everyone. Programs include food baking and decorating for the cooking type, ice skating and a surprise outing for the adventurous, glass painting and scrap-booking for the artistic and plenty of chatting, meeting others and making cool friends for the socially inclined. All this packed into monthly meetings for club members and participants.

“[But] this amazing club is more than just having fun, it is about having a blast while doing Mitzvahs (good deeds),” said Chany Turner, Youth Activity Coordinator for The Jewish Discovery Center. “Participants will gain an appreciation for Jewish tradition, specifically for understanding and helping others.”

These include learning about charity while decorating charity boxes, writing letters to Israeli soldiers, sending warm clothes to needy Russian children and connecting with fellow Jewish girls, nationally and world-wide.

The club is being offered as part of a revolutionary concept in educating Jewish youth, the next generation’s leaders, combining fun and exciting activities while giving back to the community. J.A.P. is geared for Jewish youth of all backgrounds seeking an environment that appreciates Jewish heritage and tradition, and a fresh perspective for inner growth, interpersonal relations and an inspired vision for the global future.

The first club meeting, “Take Off To: China, Italy and Africa,” takes place Monday, January 29, 4:30 – 6:00pm, at the new Jewish Discovery Center, 7587 Central Parke, in Mason. Each club meeting is a self-contained program and the club membership fee is $50 for the year or $12 per meeting for non-club-members. To attend, reserve online at the Jewish Discovery Center website, www.JDiscovery.com or by phone at (513) 531.DISCOVER.”
